The sun shone upon the city of Vancouver, on December 31st, 2026. Its rays lit up the city of decay, showing the plant life that had taken over everywhere. Vines and moss covered the sides of the tall skyscrapers, along with their moldy insides.
Yet, despite the desolate loneliness, one building started to buzz with life. On its 17th floor, in the room farthest from the stairs and elevator, water poured, dough baked, and beeps and sirens blared. Laisa looked around as she walked, toes feeling bare, onto the cold, cobblestone steps.
The sky was lit by a full moon, casting gourgeous shadows along the dark street. She could see a misty fog forming over the horizen. The chilly, midnight air whisped around her like a cold blanket as she walked towards the old, broken down shack at the end of the street. The window was dark. This was normal.
Laisa stopped at the doorstep and let out three quiet knocks. No sound came from the inside, until a few minutes later, when Laisa heard a small clatter coming from the shack. The old, rotting door opened a crack, illuminated by the street light
